2-1-1 Day – Make the Right Call

United Way Centraide North East Ontario - Monday, 11 February 2019

Today, in communities across the country, United Way Centraides in partnership with other ambassadors, are raising awareness about an essential community service called 2-1-1.

What is 2-1-1?
2-1-1 is an award-winning phone and online service that helps connect people to a complete range of community-based health, social, and government related programs. The service is free, confidential and available 24/7/365 in over 150 different languages.

“Often, people don’t know where to turn to find support. With 2-1-1, callers are instantly connected to a referral specialist that helps them find available services in our community,” says Michael Cullen, Executive Director with United Way Centraide North East Ontario. “Whether you are looking for information on health supports, income tax preparation programs, utility assistance or youth programming, 2-1-1 is always available to help.”

2-1-1 Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about making the right call. In emergencies, residents call 9-1-1. In non-emergency situations, they dial 2-1-1. In 2018, 283,789 non-emergency calls were answered by 2-1-1. In addition to the telephone service, 2-1-1 is accessible online at 211ontario.ca, and in some communities, by live chat.
