Volunteers Needed for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

United Way Centraide North East Ontario - Wednesday, 22 January 2020

United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario is currently recruiting volunteers to help deliver the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVIT), an essential service that helps thousands of eligible individuals complete their taxes, free of charge.

“CVIT is a collaborative partnership between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), UWCNEO, partnering community organizations, and volunteers,” says Linda Dupuis, Partnership & Governance Manager with UWCNEO. “In 2019, we had 60 volunteers donate over 2,450 hours to this program. Collectively, they completed over 4,500 income tax returns, ensuring that eligible individuals received and continue to receive benefit payments to which they are entitled. It’s a program that has a direct financial impact on many individuals and families in our community.”

UWCNEO is currently recruiting volunteer income tax preparers and receptionists to assist with the CVIT program that is scheduled to operate from the beginning of March through to the end of April. “This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for individuals who enjoy interacting with others, working with computers and numbers, and want to make a difference in their community,” says Dupuis.
