Northern Credit Union Launches True North Stronger Fund in Support of United Way

United Way Centraide North East Ontario - Tuesday, 19 May 2020

Northern Credit Union has announced the launch of the True North Stronger Fund in support of United Way.

Donations made through this fund will be matched corporately (up to $20,000). Five United Ways, each representing communities that Northern Credit Union serves, are involved in this initiative including, Thunder Bay, North East Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Bruce Grey and Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District.

How to get involved
Consider a donation and make double the impact in your community! Every dollar makes a difference in ensuring that local programs and services that meet basic needs are available for the people who need them most. Locally, organizations that have received funding were able to replenish food bank shelves, prepare ready-to-eat meals, purchase hygiene products and food gift and cover the costs of other essential items, including PPE, cleaning supplies and transportation for food delivery to remote communities.

How your support is helping locally
COVID-19 has been a challenge for everyone in our community, but for those already facing barriers like poverty, homelessness and social isolation, it’s been especially difficult. When you donate through the Northern Credit Union’s True North Stronger Fund, you are supporting people in your community through essential programs and services.

The power of community
Through this crisis, we’ve experienced heartfelt demonstrations of #locallove in action. Two communities, a handful of #everydayheroes and some amazing volunteers collaborated to bring an inspiring project to bring this idea to life. Homeland Mission, a food rescue operation based out of Little Current, has been helping people from Manitoulin Island and the North Shore access food, free of charge, for 15 years. Through partnerships, collective efforts, and shared vision, the Food Giveaway has now helped people in Kapuskasing fill their fridges and pantries with essentials.

In April, a transport trailer filled with vegetables, cheese, milk, meat, and an assortment of pantry staples arrived in Kapuskasing for the Free Food Giveaway. With physical distancing guidelines in place, food was distributed to individuals and families needing a little extra help through this uncertain time.

Together we are stronger
With your generous donation and the match from Northern Credit Union, you’re helping United Way do more in our community when needed more than ever. #locallove
