Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

Join our vibrant team of Volunteer Income Tax Preparers and Receptionists to help support community members in need. Last year, with the partnership of Canada Revenue Agency, our dedicated volunteers were able to provide over 4,000 free income tax returns to qualifying individuals. This program provided a value of over $300,000 to those who most need the assistance.


Income Tax Preparer

We are looking for individuals who have at least 3 years of experience preparing their own income taxes. Individuals must be comfortable filing simple tax returns.



We are looking for individuals who love interacting with the general public, and who are organized and reliable.


Other Information

The CVIT program will run from the beginning of March to the end of April. Training will be made available. Volunteers will work out of the United Way office located at 957 Cambrian Heights Drive, Unit 201 Sudbury and are usually asked to work a 4-hour shift. Weekend income tax clinics may be held in outlying areas.

Grant Review Team

United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario is seeking volunteers to be part of the Grant Review Teams for Area Grants in the areas of Parry Sound and Sudbury/Manitoulin (excluding City of Greater Sudbury) see map. Charities will be applying for small grants for capital/equipment, subsidies or projects and people who are knowledgeable about their community and its needs are invited to apply for this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will be asked to read and score applications between May 16 and 29.

Front Desk Administrative Support

United Way is currently looking for a volunteer to assist with day to day office procedures and special projects.

Tasks may include:
• Responding to public inquiries, both in person and by telephone
• Photocopying, printing, filing and faxing
• Updating database information
• Monitoring charitable status of funded agencies bi-annually and more!
