February 19, 2024 -- Sudbury, ON -- United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario (UWCNEO), in partnership with the Sudbury & District Labour Council, invite you to be part of the 8th annual Tampon Tuesday initiative taking place throughout the community until March 8th, 2024.
1 in 4 Canadians must choose between buying food or period products each month. Although menstrual hygiene products are a necessity, many people in our community cannot afford to purchase them. This is where Tampon Tuesday helps!
There are several ways to participate:
- Launch a workplace collection drive
- Donate products at one of the drop off locations. For a complete listing of participating organizations visit UWCNEO.com
- Make a financial donation to support the Tampon Tuesday campaign
- Attend the event at the Daventry Kitchen and Bar on March 5th between 6:30pm – 8:00pm
“Tampon Tuesday serves as a catalyst for change, addressing the multifaceted issues surrounding period poverty," says Mary Lou Hussak, Executive Director with UWCNEO. "The initiative not only collects and distributes menstrual hygiene products but also strives to break the silence and challenge the societal stigma associated with menstrual health.
“Tampon Tuesday signifies our dedication to dismantling barriers and guaranteeing access to menstrual hygiene products for every individual in need. Through advocacy, we aspire to create a future free from period poverty. Together, we will champion the cause for menstrual equity, working towards a more inclusive society for all”, says Jessica Montgomery, President of The Sudbury and District Labour Council.
Donations collected from Tampon Tuesday will be distributed locally to organizations supporting vulnerable clients in our community.

About Tampon Tuesday
In 2009, Tampon Tuesday began after Mandi Fields, Community Relations Coordinator with CTV in London, noticed there were no menstrual hygiene products in the London Food Bank’s non-food cupboard. The next month, CTV London created Tampon Tuesday. In 2017, United Way Centraide Canada's Labour Programs and Services joined forces with Fields, Tampon Tuesday, and Bell Media to begin holding events to help people across Canada.
