United Way Labour Partnership
Unions are an important force for democracy, not just in the workplace, but beyond. In our communities, United Way and Labour have been partners for more than 43 years, since the inception of our local United Way in 1982. The partnership developed around a common interest –ensuring that workers and working families have access to the supports they need.
Unions across Northeastern Ontario are longstanding and generous contributors of United Way, but the partnership is rooted much deeper than just financial support. Labour representatives advocate for those in need in their communities, provide volunteers resources, serve our Board of Directors, and committees.
At United Way Centraide North East Ontario (UWCNEO) our Labour Programs and Services Representative works to bring the two together through collective action ensuring that workers and their families have the support they need within our community.

Labour partners were instrumental in launching the first local United Way workplace campaign here in Sudbury. In 1982, Ron McDonald, a past president of USW Local 6500 approached Inco (Now Vale) to run a joint campaign in support of their community.
