Transitioning to permanent housing can be costly and overwhelming when you have to start over. At minimum, the cost to furnish a one-bedroom apartment is $3,500.
This is simply not a cost that individuals fleeing intimate partner violence or transitioning out of homelessness can afford.
United Way’s Welcome Home program helps address the need for basic home items when an individual or family is starting over. This includes cleaning supplies, dishes and utensils, basic food staples, linens and other items to make their new accomodations feel like home. By aquiring these basic necessities, clients are able to use the little financial resources they have for life’s regular monthly costs.
How it works
Welcome Home is a donor driven program in partnership with workplaces and community partners collaborating to address the needs of individuals transtioning to permanent housing. Items are purchased and assembled into Welcome Home packages then delivered to local agencies who have requested the support.
