This fall, our community will come together to honour our heroes.
United Way Centraide North East Ontario is proud to support an upcoming Honouring Our Heroes initiative led by the ANAVETS and The Royal Canadian Legion—a powerful community project that will bring thousands of handmade poppies together to create a breathtaking tribute to veterans and their families.
The goal is ambitious: 30,000 knitted and crocheted poppies, woven together to create a memorial installation stretching approximately 1,754 feet along the Bridge of Nations.
And we need our community to help make it happen.
Poppies have long been a symbol of remembrance and a way to honour the sacrifices made by those who have served.
For this project, each handmade poppy will become part of something much larger—a collective tribute created by people from across our community and beyond.
Whether you are an experienced knitter or crocheter, someone looking for a meaningful project to work on, or simply want to do something to show your support, you can be part of this historic community effort.
You can make one poppy. You can make ten. You can make 100.

There are two ways you can get involved:

Pick up your needles or crochet hook and help us reach our goal of 30,000 handmade poppies.
Once your poppies are complete, they can be dropped off at:

Poppies can also be dropped off at any City of Greater Sudbury library or Citizen Service Centre before October 20.
Honouring Our Heroes is about more than creating an impressive display. It is about remembering.
It is an opportunity to recognize veterans from Canada and around the world, honour the sacrifices of those who served, and acknowledge the families who supported them.
Most importantly, it is an opportunity for our community to come together.
A single handmade poppy may seem small. But when 30,000 poppies are brought together, they become something extraordinary.
They become a symbol of remembrance, a visible reminder of the courage, sacrifice and service of veterans and their families.
