Everyday Heroes are amongst us.

If you look, you will see them everywhere. At work. In your neighbourhood. On the news or in line at the local store. They quietly go about their day, doing what comes naturally, helping people in need. They don’t wear capes, fly, or have super-human powers but their actions are just as powerful. They are the advocates, the connectors, the helpers and the changemakers. They tackle tough issues, provide hope, and inspire lasting change.

We hear firsthand from individuals and families whose lives have been transformed thanks to the support of our donors...our everyday heroes!

Lynn, a single mother of two, struggles every year to provide the basic needs for back to school. Thanks to community programs like United Way's Ready for School, that financial burden is alleviated and Lynn doesn't have to spend her nights awake wondering how she is going to afford new shoes for both her kids.

Anna is another person who is grateful for everyday heroes. Anna spends a lot of time home alone after she had to undergo surgery. Being constrained to her apartment, she missed going out into the community and connecting with people. Luckily, Anna found a United Way funded program that not only provided her with hot meals, but companionship as well.

Another impactful story is that of Nathaniel's.  At just 15 years old, Nathaniel was caught in a destructive cycle and became addicted to hard drugs. Then things got even more stark when he started living on the streets.  Thankfully, a friend told him about an after-school program that provided mental health support and changed his life.  Nathaniel now encourages others to seek mental health treatment and refers them to the very program that saved his life.

These stories are reminders that anyone can be an Everyday Hero.  It doesn't take a cape or great acts of heroism - it's the small thoughtful actions that ripple across our community and creates lasting change.
