• Everyone can turn the page and start a new chapter.

Let’s give them the chance to change their story!

Poverty isn’t a story that ends overnight — but your support can help write a new one.

Every day, people in our community are working to start a new chapter — to move from crisis to stability, from hunger to hope. But they can't do it alone. They need something — or someone — to help them start a new chapter.

You are that someone.

Your donation helps create new chapters every day! Moments when hunger becomes nourishment, isolation becomes connection, and struggle becomes stability. With your help, that next page can be filled with possibility. A new chapter begins.

Across Northeastern Ontario, more and more individuals and families are struggling to afford life’s most basic needs — food, housing, and stability.

For many, the lack of access to mental health supports only deepens the challenge, affecting not just wellbeing but hope itself.

But through United Way–funded programs, a new chapter is possible!

Anna's New Chapter

Anna has lived in Sudbury for over seven years. After recent gallbladder surgery, she began receiving Meals on Wheels — a United Way–funded program that delivers nutritious meals and friendly visits to people who need extra support.

For Anna, the service has made all the difference.

“Everything is so expensive right now, and having these meals gives me one less thing to worry about,” she says.

Damian's New Chapter

At a young age, Damian struggled with social anxiety, negative thoughts and depressions. For Damian, the physical and mental changes he experienced were complicated with not having a supportive male role model in his life.

Then Damian connected with a United Way-supported program. The change wasn’t instant. Damian remained guarded. He believed he would never find a mentor, a friend, that would want to build a relationship with him. Then he met Jason.

Nathaniel’s New Chapter

In the summer following grade nine, Nathaniel fell into the wrong crowd and became addicted to hard drugs. Caught in the destructive cycle, he rarely attended school and was eventually expelled.

At only 15 years old, Nathaniel confronted a stark reality – a path leading to potential self-destruction and hurting those who cared about him. Thankfully, a friend told him about a United Way-funded after-school program which provided mental health support to youth.

Keeping Seniors Warm – Daniel’s Story

Daniel was recovering in the hospital when a kind neighbour signed him up for United Way's Keeping Seniors Warm program. For the first time in years, Daniel received new clothes:

"I was excited to come and shop! I got jogging pants, mitts, a pair of winter boots, and underwear. My life's been very difficult, so I am grateful to be alive and be eligible for these programs. Thank you!" he said.

Through this program, Daniel received not only essential items but also a confidence boost and a sense of security, connection, and care.

Stories like Daniel's show the profound impact of your contribution. Many seniors are at risk of isolation, which can lead to serious health issues. With your help, we can ensure they receive the care they need, whether it’s hot, healthy meals, essential winter clothing, or engaging activities to support their well-being.
